$4 Prescriptions? Yes, It's True

Several pharmacies, most notably Wal-Mart and Target, now offer many generic drugs at $4 for a one-month supply. Visit www.walmart.com or www.target.com and print out the list of $4 generic drugs, or pick up the list at a nearby store location. In many cases you may be taking a brandname drug that is available as a lower cost generic equivalent. Or your pharmacy may not have a low-cost generic program, and switching your prescription to a pharmacy that does could save you money.
  • All Wal-Mart® and Target® locations offer the $4 generic drug program.
  • Costco® has many generics for $5.
  • Price Chopper® has many generics for $3.
  • Rite Aid Pharmacy® has locations that will match Wal-Mart’s® $4 generic drug program, but the customer must ask.
  • Shaw’s®/OSCO® Pharmacy has locations with the same policy as Rite Aid Pharmacy®.
Remember to ask your doctor to write your prescription for a generic drug, if he/she feels it is appropriate for you. Make sure the pharmacy uses your insurance card when filling your prescription. This allows you to get credit toward any drug plan deductibles that might apply -- or it allows you to receive covered benefits if your deductibles have been met.
